Allan Crossman

Allan Crossman taught composition and harmony for many years at Concordia University ( Montreal ) and Wheaton College (MA), and is now with the San Francisco Conservatory. He launched new composition programs at CAMMAC (Canadian Amateur Musicians) in Montreal and for the Quebec Music Teachers Association. His graduate studies were with George Rochberg, George Crumb, and Hugo Weisgall at the University of Pennsylvania .

He has written for many international performers, including the North/South Chamber Orchestra (NYC), who just recorded FLYER (cello and string orchestra), commemorating the centenary of powered flight. Recent Bay Area collaborators are SF Composers Chamber Orchestra, San Jose pianist Ayako Takano, New Music Works ( Santa Cruz ), Fresh Voices Festival, and the New Pacific Trio, who commissioned the piano trio Icarus .

He has composed, arranged, and directed music for many theater productions, including The Log of the Skipper's Wife , produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company at Stratford and the Kennedy Center , with music drawn from Irish/English shanties and dances. He was music director for the Hong Kong premiere of Anne of Green Gables , and his music is the soundtrack for the award-winning animated film, X-MAN , by Christopher Hinton (Nat'l Film Board of Canada) .
