Jim Shallenberger

James Shallenberger (violin/viola) is an active freelance musician in the San Francisco Bay Area. He has performed for many years with the San Francisco Symphony, Opera and Ballet Orchestras, and was a founding member of the Kronos String Quartet. He has also performed and recorded with many pop and jazz artists, including Art Pepper, Keith Jarrett, Henry Mancini, Dionne Warwick, Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, Bjork, and many others.

Mr. Shallenberger is involved in the recording and arranging fields; appearing on CD's with Linda Ronstadt, Kitaro, Aaron Neville, Al Jarreau, and John Williams, and recording the sound tracks for many major films. He has also played on hundreds of radio and TV commercials for products ranging from Hershey Chocolate to Chevron Gas. Tours with artists like Sammy Davis Jr., Keith Jarrett, Yanni, and the Argentine dance review "Forever Tango" have taken him throughout the United States, as well as to Europe, Canada and Japan.

He teaches privately at his home in Berkeley, through CCMC, and through the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. He coaches regularly for CMNC, and is on the faculty of the Oakland School for the Arts (violin and string ensemble, grades 7-12).
