Katherine Baird
BM, Cello Performance, Holy Names College
Orff Cetification, Mills College
Katherine Baird received a Bachelor's Degree in Cello Performance from Holy Names College, where she studied with Jennifer Culp, in 1993. Other teachers have included Milly Rosner, Margaret Tait, Peter Shelton, and most recently Peter Wyrick.
Katherine earned a certificate in Orff-Schulwerk from Mills College. She has been a private cello instructor and music & movement teacher in the San Francisco area for thirteen years. She has completed Suzuki teacher-training in books 1 through 10 with Barbara Wampner and Tanya Carey, and has also attended many teachers' workshops in California.
For the past eight years Katherine has been teaching classroom music fundamentals and recorder classes at Alvarado Elementary School in San Francisco using an Orff approach.
She taught music-&-movement classes to children aged 2 & ½ through 4 years old at Natural Resources in San Francisco's Noe Valley district for seven years, and currently teaches at Holy Names University, and her home studio.
She has taught both cello and music-&-movement classes at numerous music camps throughout Northern California.
In addition to her work at Alvarado, Katherine teaches twenty-five private cello students, and is interim director of the Prep Music Department at Holy Names.
