Martha Wasley

Martha Wasley joined the University of California at Berkeley piano faculty in 1976, and is an active performer as soloist, chamber musician, and lieder accompanist. Her formal training was at Mills College, UC Berkeley, and the Aspen Music School. Trained both as a pianist and violinist, she performed a Mozart piano concerto with the San Francisco Symphony at age 17. Her teachers include Brooks Smith, Paul Hersh, Bernard Abramowitsch, and Marjorie Petray. She was the pianist of the Peregrine Trio, and previously the Pacific Chamber Players.

Performance venues have included Old First Church, Berkeley Chamber Performances, Midsummer Mozart, San Francisco Performances at Six, Music in the Redwoods, Old Saint Mary's, Chamber Music Society of Sacramento, Mozart in Monterey, Incline Village Concert Series, Trinity Chamber Series, and at MSRI and the Noon Concerts at UCB.

A devoted teacher and coach, Ms. Wasley has taught at the SF Community Music School and the East Bay School of the Arts, and is currently on the coaching staff of the Crowden Center for Music in the Community's Adult Chamber Music program. She has coached for the Chamber Musicians of Northern California and recently coached an intensive week-long workshop in Sacramento for talented youth.

Recent performances include several all-Mozart recitals, a chamber concert with members of the SF Opera, and seven concerts with members of the Vancouver Symphony featuring rediscovered masterworks of the 19th century. Upcoming projects include a recording of Schumann's Dichterliebe, several chamber recitals with strings and lieder, and a return to Vancouver for concerts in September 2008.
