How to Apply: Step by Step

The admissions office is here to help you learn more about what a Crowden education can mean for your child. We guide you through each step in the process from your first inquiry to final decisions.

Attend an admissions evening informational session.
Join us for a thorough overview of our school's history, academic and music programs, school day and schedule, and more. These info sessions are also great opportunities to meet and ask questions of our admissions coordinator and music faculty! All info sessions are held at Crowden from 6:30 to 8:00 pm.

Tour the School. Tours of the music program are scheduled by appointment on Thursday mornings, 8:15-9:45 am, beginning in October. Prospective students are encouraged to attend. Academic observations are available upon request. To schedule a tour, please contact Heidi Mattson at admissions@crowden.org or 510.559.6910 ext. 122.
Return your completed Admission Application Form to Heidi Mattson, Admissions Coordinator, along with the $75 non-refundable application fee and a recent photograph. If you intend to apply for financial aid, please attach a note to the Application Form.

Send the Transcript Release Form to your child's current school to release progress reports and testing results from the last two years. You may also include your own copies with the application.

Fill out the top portion of the Teacher Recommendation Form and ask your child's current teacher, counselor, or principal to complete and return directly to Crowden.
Schedule a day visit for your child. We encourage all interested students to spend an entire day in the appropriate grade level in order to fully experience The Crowden School programs. Prospective students are invited for a visit once a completed application form has been returned.

Audition for our music faculty and take an entrance exam on February 8, 2011, beginning at 9:15am.

  • Music Audition: This involves playing for Lisa Grodin, Director of Music, and other members of the music faculty. An ear test is also given.
  • Entrance Examination: The written exam includes writing and math sections, as well as a short music theory section to determine the student's current level for appropriate placement.

If you have questions about The Crowden School or the admissions process, please call Heidi Mattson at 510.559.6910 ext. 122, or email her at admissions@crowden.org.
