Tuition & Financial Aid
Tuition
Tuition for the 2008-2009 school year is $17,535
for fourth and fifth grade and $19,281
for grades six through eight, with an additional program fee of $1,000.
Qualified students should apply to The Crowden School regardless of ability to pay full fees. Even though our revenues are primarily tuition-based, as part of our commitment to musical talent, academic excellence, and distinction in the student body, The Crowden School budgets a significant fraction of revenue to financial assistance. Furthermore, the actual cost of a Crowden education is substantially more than the tuition we charge–approximately $2,200-2,500 per pupil, which is raised by tax-deductible donations from families, alumni, and friends of the school. We annually solicit contributions to close this gap and support the provision of financial aid.
Financial Aid
Aid is based on musical and academic potential, the commitment of the student and parents, and the financial need of the family. Families requesting aid should complete a Parents’ Confidential Financial Statement (PFS) and submit it to the School and Student Service for Financial Aid (SSS), phone 609.771.7770, in Princeton, New Jersey. Processed forms are due to Crowden no later than January 30, 2009, so please allow 10 days for online applications, and 30 days for those sent by mail. Crowden's school code is 2684. The amount of aid awarded is based on guidelines from SSS, supporting documents from parents, step- and grandparents, and the school's resources.
In the case of divorced or separated parents, the school requires that both parents complete and submit PFS and SSS forms. The school will consider the assets of both parents before making any award, and will not be bound by the assertion that one parent has disclaimed responsibility for educational expenses. If either parent has remarried, we also consider the assets of the step-parent, bearing in mind, of course, the obligations of that step-parent to his or her children from previous commitments.
Awards are revised annually, and the Financial Aid Committee of the Crowden Board requires an application and financial statement each year. Provision of continued aid is based on yearly qualification, musical and academic growth, and adherence to the school's standards. Parents are obliged to inform the school if there is any significant change in the family's income level or eligibility for aid during the school year.
The Crowden School admits students of any race, color, national, and ethnic origin. Questions about individual circumstances, or the school’s Financial Aid Policy, should be addressed to Heidi Mattson at 510.559.6910 ext. 122, or by email at admissions@crowden.org.
