William Skeen

William Skeen appears as principal cellist with Musica Angelica, Los Angeles Bach Society, Seattle Baroque Orchestra, American Bach Soloists and Los Angeles Baroque Orchestra, in addition to being a member of Philharmonia Baroque and the Carmel Bach Festival. Mr. Skeen is co-founder of renowned sextet La Monica, an ensemble dedicated to the performance of music from the seventeenth century. In addition, he tours regularly with El Mundo and tango sensation Los Peregrinos. Other chamber ensembles with which Mr. Skeen has performed include Baroque Northwest, Hesperus, Voxfire, and Just Strings, a Los Angeles-based ensemble exploring just intonation and other micro tunings. Mr. Skeen earned degrees from the Cleveland Institute of Music and the University of Southern California, where he is currently Lecturer in Baroque Cello and Viola da Gamba. Mr. Skeen has also served on the faculty of the University of San Diego and held a previous appointment at U.S.C. as teaching assistant to the eminent cellist Ronald Leonard. Mr. Skeen is a tenured member of the Stockton Symphony and has also played in the Modesto Symphony, New West Symphony, Riverside Philharmonic, Mansfield (OH) Symphony and Miami Symphony. More recently, he entered the expanding Baroque opera circuit serving as principal cellist in San Diego Opera’s 2002 performances of Handel’s Ariodante and Chicago Opera Theater’s 2003 performances of Handel’s Agrippina. He will return to San Diego in 2006 for a production of Handel’s Giulio Cesare.

Mr. Skeen teaches cello at CCMC and teaches the Continuo class at The Crowden School.
