Ensemble Training

Ages 9–14

In our ensemble classes, students develop their collaborative playing, artistic, technical, and general musicianship skills while experiencing the joy of making music with friends and our expert faculty coaches. Our chamber music program provides older students the opportunity to deepen their knowledge and passion for music through the study and performance of the world's greatest chamber music repertoire.

In this ensemble for mixed strings, students work on following a conductor, playing as a group, and developing intonation, bowing, and phrasing. Repertoire includes beginning-level arrangements of standard string repertoire. A portion of each rehearsal is devoted to the development of musicianship skills, including ear training, sight-singing, and general music literacy.

Students are required to study privately with a teacher of their choice. Audition required. Mid-year applicants are welcome as space permits.

Crowden’s Chamber Orchestra is intended for string players with advanced reading ability and instrumental technique.

Participants develop and strengthen ensemble-playing skills through the study of standard string orchestra literature. This advanced-level ensemble provides an orchestral experience, while still being small enough to allow for individual attention.

Students are required to study privately with a teacher of their choice. Audition required. Mid-year applicants are welcome as space permits.

Registration Deadline:

      • August 15, 2017 (year-long program)

To register, submit a completed registration along with a non-refundable $15 registration fee to Crowden by the registration deadline. Crowden will contact registrants to schedule an audition appointment when the registration is received. Mid-year applicants are welcome as space permits. For instrumental auditions, applicants should be prepared to play two pieces in contrasting style, to sight-read a short excerpt, and to play scales. Upon review of auditions, Crowden will contact students regarding acceptance.
