Community Music Day

Musical fun for all ages! Community Music Day, Crowden’s largest outreach event of the year, is free for the entire community.

Featuring the fan-favorite Very First Concerts with San Francisco Chamber Orchestra.

Crowden is planning a hybrid Community Music Day this year, with a more limited, adapted in-person event as well as online livestreams of our Very First Concerts with the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra. The in-person event will follow all City of Berkeley, Alameda County, California state, and CDC guidelines for live events, and we are formulating our plans with an abundance of caution. Please stay tuned for additional information.

To attend in person reserve your free tickets for one of three event time slots by clicking here:

  • 10am to 12pm
  • 11am to 1pm or
  • 12 to 2pm

All patrons over 2 years old must wear masks while indoors. Masks will be optional for outside activities. Proof of vaccination and booster or negative COVID test (within 72 hours) will be required at the door.

Please be sure to reserve attendance for all members of your party age 2 or older for accurate capacity tracking.

Health and Safety:

On-campus capacity will be limited and activities moved outdoors as much as possible to keep everyone safe.

All guests over 2 years old must present proof of vaccination OR negative COVID test within 72 hours of the concert upon entry. Masks are required on campus while indoors; masks will be optional for outdoor activities. This event is subject to change to comply with all public health guidelines, and may be presented online.

The health and safety of our artists, audiences, staff, and community are our top priority. Crowden adheres to all CDC guidelines and local policies, and continues to closely monitor information from public health officials. Please be aware that these safety protocol may change, and that Crowden will communicate additional details if necessary. Please contact us with any additional questions.

What to Do at Community Music Day:

Very First Concerts with the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra
San Francisco Chamber Orchestra and Crowden Music Center encourage audiences to get up and dance in Very First Concerts, a classical series designed with the youngest listeners in mind. Each concert features a central theme, short selections, and hands-on musical activities geared toward families with young children (infants to 7 year-olds).

This year’s theme is “Strings Attached!” Join Ben Simon and five SFCO All-Star string players for this family-friendly exploration of the very special qualities of the most important instruments in an orchestra: the violin, viola, cello and double bass. We’ll set our strings in motion to produce wonderful sounds and beautiful music together.

Repeat performances at 10:45am, 11:30am, and 12:15pm.

Very First Concerts will be both livestreamed online and presented in person with limited capacity seating this year! If you would like to attend in person, please reserve your free tickets in advance.

The Community Music Day concert broadcast will begin at 12:15pm (PT) with Very First Concerts, followed by Crowden Student performances. Watch online here.

Instrument Petting Zoo
Crowden’s entire campus transforms into our gigantic Instrument Petting Zoo, where kids and adults alike explore all the different instruments in a symphony orchestra. This March, we plan a limited. strings-focused Instrument Petting Zoo, with increased supervision and sanitization to ensure everyone’s safety.

Musical Performances
We’ll be sharing musical performances featuring our inspiring young Crowden musicians!
