Biography

Kerrilyn Renshaw has been a musicianship/composition instructor at Crowden since 2005. She is a pianist and has been on the faculty of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music since 1980 in various roles, including collegiate opera coach and accompanist, musicianship instructor in the Preparatory Division, piano chamber music coordinator for Summer Music West, and both musicianship and piano faculty member with Summer Music West. As a private piano instructor and voice coach, she has taught many students who have attended both the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and the San Francisco High School of the Arts. Her own piano studies included masterclasses with Leon Fleisher and private studies with Aube Tzerko and Mack McCray.

Having performed widely in the United States, Kerrilyn gave a Carnegie Hall debut in 1998 as accompanist for mezzo soprano Sally Munro. She returned to play at Carnigie Hall in 2002 as pianist with the Villa Sinfonia Chamber Orchestra.

Kerrilyn was piano soloist with the San Francisco Symphony in "Petrushka" during the 1982 Stravinsky Festival at Davies Hall. She has been an orchestra pianist with San Francisco Symphony on numerous other occaisions, working with conductors such as Michael Tilson Thomas, Vladmir Ashkenazy, Neeme Jarvi, Roger Norrington, and Edo de Waart, and with composers John Adams and Steve Reich. Ms. Renshaw has also been an accompanist for vocal soloists of the LA Philharmonic, the San Francisco Symphony, and the San Francisco Opera.

From 1986 to 1992, Kerrilyn was featured both as soloist and as a member of the Holland Renshaw Piano Duo in concerts aboard World Explorer Cruises, and as a guest chamber artist with Royal Viking Cruises. She was also Musical Advisor in talent recruitment for World Explorer Cruises. As a concerto soloist, Kerrilyn has appeared with the Santa Barbara Symphony, the Prometheus Orchestra, the Palo Alto Synphony, the Roundtop Festival Orchestra, and the Redlands Symphony. She was first prize winner in the Santa Barbara and Redlands Symphony Competitions, second prize winner in the Fresno Philharmonic Competition and the San Francisco Conservatory Concerto Competition, and a finalist in the Carmel Young Artists Competition and the Gina Bachaur International Piano Competition.

Ms. Renshaw was accompanist for master classes given by opera singers Luciano Pavarotti, Gerard Souzay, and Eileen Farrell. She has recorded CDs as a solo pianist with Sugo Records, and on independent labels with composer Marjorie Wheeler and with soprano Helene Zindarsian.
