With over 26 years of experience as a highly qualified private flute instructor, Kris Palmer holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Flute Performance from Rice University. Dr. Palmer's flute students have received awards and honors from CBDA All State Honor Band, Nor Cal All State Honor Band, Santa Clara County Honor Band, Junior Bach Festival, Bay Area Music Association’s Open Legacy Competition, the CMTANC International Music Competition, the U.S. Open Music Competition, and MTAC Certificate of Merit Convention Honors.
Dr. Palmer is a published author on performing music from the 18th-century. She is a frequent guest lecturer on the subject, with lectures at the Mid-Atlantic Flute Convention, Wichita State University, Chabot College, the MTAC State Convention, the San Diego Flute Faire, and the San Francisco International Flute Festivals. American Music Teacher Magazine writes, "Clearly, Palmer is knowledgeable about ornamentation...her knowledge of the subject is very thorough."
Dr. Palmer holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts from Rice University. Her awards include first prize in the Carmel Chamber Music Competition, second prize in the National Flute Association’s Young Artist Competition, and a Carnegie Recital Debut with Artists International. A former member of the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra, she is a recording artist with two commercial album releases, and she is the founder and director of The Black Cedar Trio.
