Grades 1-5 Admissions

Applying to Grades 1-5

Crowden offers a unique elementary school environment where music and academics play in harmony.

In Grades 1–5, students engage in a rich, integrated curriculum that combines strong academic foundations with daily music instruction. Through ensemble playing, movement, and creative exploration, students build focus, discipline, collaboration, and confidence. Our program supports the development of critical thinking, language skills, and emotional intelligence—while fostering a lifelong love of learning and music.

Grade 1-5 MUSIC

Crowden School welcomes students with all levels of musical experience, from absolute beginners to serious young musicians.

For applicants to grades 1-5, all levels from absolute beginner to advanced are welcome on stringed instruments (violin, viola, or cello). Small classes and expert professional music coaches ensure that every young player gets the instruction they need to rise up to their full potential.

Piano at Crowden School
Due to the demands of chamber music, students applying as pianists should be experienced players with strong music-reading skills.

Because this level is typically reached after years of study, elementary-aged applicants rarely apply as pianists. Many younger students study a string instrument at Crowden while continuing piano outside of school.
Questions about piano readiness are welcome! Please contact Admissions Director Kirsten Shallenberg at kshallenberg@crowden.org.
