Course Description
Tyler DeVigal, Youth Chamber Music Program Director
Chamber music demands that each player perform independently while staying attuned to the rest of the ensemble. Our faculty of renowned chamber musicians guides advanced string players and pianists toward a deeper understanding of timbre, texture, balance, expression, technique, and interpretation, sharpening the listening and communication skills at the heart of great ensemble playing.
This world-class program gives older students the chance to deepen their musicianship through the study and performance of the world’s greatest chamber music repertoire — and to become part of a community of committed, inspired young musicians whose musical friendships and shared memories last a lifetime.
Rehearsals meet Tuesday afternoons or Saturday mornings, with ensembles performing in recitals throughout the year. Select ensembles may also be invited to participate in outside performances, master classes, festivals, and competitions.
Youth Chamber Music players looking to build foundational ensemble skills may find Crowden’s Chamber Orchestra program a great place to begin.
Students must study privately with a teacher of their choice. Audition required for placement. For auditions, applicants should be prepared to play two pieces in contrasting style. Upon review of auditions, Crowden will contact students regarding acceptance into the programs for which they have applied.
