Course Description
Natalie Ning, Piano Faculty
With a maximum of just four students, every child gets the focused attention and encouragement they need to grow musically with confidence. Over the course of the semester, students explore the fundamentals of both playing and understanding music — reading notes, feeling rhythms, recognizing time signatures, and hearing the relationships between pitches. But beyond the technique, they discover something more important: that music is something they can do. Students who complete the semester often go on to private lessons, taking everything they’ve learned and running with it on the instrument that calls to them most.
A note on practice: It is essential for students to practice at home, so daily access to a piano or a full-sized weighted keyboard on a stand is required.
