Hands-On History: Learning about the Ohlone

Lower School students had an activity-filled day at Peralta Hacienda Historical Park learning about the Ohlone this week!

Our amazing parent chaperones led small groups where our students:

  • Played traditional games
  • Learned a Chochenyo good luck song
  • Created pine nut bracelets
  • Ground seeds with a mortar and pestle to create a snack
  • Used tools to sew deerskin pouches

Children exploring basketry crafts outdoors. Children crafting clay pieces outdoors under shelter. Children exploring educational outdoor activity exhibit.

Our informative docents reminded us of traditional land care practices and showed us many trees and plants that were and are used now as sources of food and medicine. Thank you to everyone who made this trip possible!
