Course Description

Beginning Guitar is a small-group class designed for anyone who has always wanted to learn guitar but hasn’t yet found the right place to start. Led by John Zientek, this course provides a solid foundation in guitar playing within a supportive, social environment so you’ll be making music alongside others at the same stage of the journey.

The curriculum emphasizes healthy technique and long-term confidence from the very first session. You’ll learn proper posture and hand position, how to tune your instrument, foundational chords and harmony, strumming and rhythm patterns, scales, and smooth chord transitions. Through guided exercises, ensemble playing, and approachable repertoire, you’ll develop your unique musicianship — transforming finger movements into personal expression.

Note: Students should bring an acoustic guitar and a tuner to each session. Recommendations for both are available upon request if you’re still getting set up.
